The Severn Bore

 Are you watching?
It can be quite hard to tell exactly what time.... are you watching?
Nope, don't get distracted by golden haired children, signs of spring or reflections.

Keep watching

here it comes.

No surfers this time
Gloucestershire in March does not quite have the appeal.

Quite big though

OK, so now is the time to move away from the bank as ... too late, splashed....

taa daaaa... river flowing the wrong way.
This is the science bit

I wouldn't recommend travelling too far to see it but if you pass a bridge with lots of people standing and waiting then it is worth stopping the car and watching.
In the words of the 5 year old now
"Now I know what to write about when we write our news in school on Monday!"

I live within in a few yards of the river Severn so I can watch from my bedroom window! But I do get fed up with not being able to get out of my drive because inconsiderate drivers have blocked me in while they watch the bore!! and then they all go before the tide rises which in my opinion is far more impressive than the actual bore!

Fantastic! I read about this in "The sense of an ending' by Julian Barnes. If you haven't read the book, its really worth it - small book packed with much to think about. Including how on earth the Severn Bore happens!

how brilliant, you got to see it! My mother and friends have talked about going to see it and stood waiting and waiting and you guessed it waiting! Great photo's!

I'd like to see that. Lovely catkins too.

Thanks for sharing - one of those phenomena that I would love to see.

What fun! I can't believe we missed it either, though we'd have to travel upstream a bit to get the full effect! I'm not sure where you're based, but am guessing you're not far from me in Monmouthshire! I'm definitely going to take the children out for the day to see it next time.
