Well almost, we were in the same room!
Yesterday I went to the Amy Butler presentation organised by Five Valley fabrics run by Kirtsy.
It was in a small village hall in gloucestershire and consisted of a talk/slide show and then a chance to chat and buy fabric.
Amy Butler is just as you would imagine....... pretty, talented, friendly, very long legs........!
She presented a slide show on how she got to where she is today and then her inspiration. A lot of it is covered in her book Midwest Modern. I read this about a month ago and although I didn't feel it was a "life changing" book it was a good reminder to just keep designing and making things to refine your style. It also showed glorious pictures of her home. She is an avid gardener and produces many designs based on what she sees there. We had a few peeps at future projects .
After the presentation we could purchase fabric/books. We were cooing and dribbling over the gorgeous colours and combinations. It was very hard to choose! I choose having lots of small bits of lots of patterns as I have not used her fabric before and wanted to look at how it sits with "cheaper" fabric.
It was interesting to go to as it was nice to meet such a highly creative person and see how they worked. I am shy about my work and find this blog a good way to put it out into the big wide world and see what people think without it being too scary. Over the past year I keep getting the message to keep pushing on with this journey and to keep developing my work. I don't imagine I will ever be an "Amy Butler" but it would be nice to have a piece of that "cake"!
( Sorry about all the metaphors!)
Our camera has just about given up now so sorry, no photos.
Speaking of the big bad world. I will be at the Festival of Quilts at the NEC on Thursday. I am going to do some shopping, marvel at quilts and also to help out Angie Hughes as she has a stall there so if you happen to be passing please come and say "hello"!
