In invite to veiw.

Here are some photos of my pieces of work from the Adhesion exhibition.
I forgot to take my camera so I took these in the back garden. Each has a picture and a detail. The words are taken from the letters and are stitched onto symbolic objects. The last piccies are a framed piece for sale and some cards that I made to sell as well....so if anyone is interested....!

The story of the relationship between Abelard and Heloise is one of the worlds most celebrated and tragic love affairs. It is told through the letters of Peter Abelard, a French philosopher and one of the greatest logicians of the 12th century, and of his gifted pupil Heloise. Through their impassioned writings we read a story of romance, from its reckless, ecstatic beginnings through to public scandal, an enforced marriage and its devastating consequences. Their eloquent and intimate letters express a vast range of emotions from adoration and devotion to reproach, indignation and grief.
The Letters of Abelard and Heloise.
Penguin Classics 2003

All on fire with desire for this opportunity of getting to know….private daily meetings.

Heloise met Peter Abelard when he came to lodge at her uncles house in Paris in 1115. Abelard was working as Master of the Cathedral school of Notre Dame. He is immediately attracted to her. She was known to be intelligent and he persuades her uncle to allow him to tutor her. It was a mutual attraction and they soon became lovers.
My heart was not in me but with you.

Heloise and Abelard had to keep their relationship secret especially form Fulbert, Eloise’s Uncle. They continued with their studies within the home. Abelard neglected his pupils and spent all his time with Heloise. Soon Heloise was pregnant and gave birth to a son, Astralabe. They were married but in order to continue his career the marriage was kept secret.

Although it is wintertime, yet my breast blazes with the fervour of love.

Fulbert wanted to make the marriage public so Abelard removed Heloise to a convent. Believing that Abelard has repudiated the marriage Fulbert had him castrated. Heloise and Abelard entered religious establishments for the rest of their lives. Heloise missed Abelard passionately and had to keep her feelings subdued, accept her fate and do her duty to God.

Sweeter will always be the word friend. ( £20)

The piece I sold was similar to this and said

Lovely idea to use wedding fabric - it could catch on, wedding invites incorporating the material of brides dress - a taster of the big day.
